Nasal Endoscopy

Nasal Endoscopy

Nasal endoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the inside of the nasal passages and sinus cavities. It involves the use of a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera at its tip, called an endoscope, which is inserted through the nostrils to visualize the structures of the nasal cavity and sinuses. The patient may be given a nasal decongestant spray or drops to help shrink the nasal passages, making it easier for the endoscope to pass through. In some cases, a local anesthetic may be applied to the nasal passages to numb them and reduce discomfort during the procedure. However, nasal endoscopy is usually well-tolerated without anesthesia. The endoscope is gently inserted into one nostril and carefully advanced through the nasal passages. The camera at the tip of the endoscope sends images to a monitor, allowing the healthcare provider to see the inside of the nose in real-time. As the endoscope is maneuvered through the nasal cavity, the healthcare provider can examine the nasal septum, turbinates, sinus openings, and other structures for abnormalities such as polyps, inflammation, infections, tumors, or other issues.
